Annual program; Summer Reading at the Dickinson County Library

The Solomonson Branch of the Dickinson County Library offers programming all year, but the Summer Reading Program is our largest annual event.  Registration begins shortly after school ends each year.  The Summer Reading Program is open to kids of all ages (0-18) and we offer a program for adults too!  This FREE program runs for 6-8 weeks each summer!  To find out more, visit our website

Monthly program; A Novel Bunch Book Club

There is also a monthly book club that meets in Norway.  The 'A Novel Bunch Book Club' meets the second Wednesday of each month at 2:30 p.m. at the Norway Library.  Book selections and reading guides can be found at our website:  http://www.dcl-lib.org/norwaybookclub.

Family Games Night Wednesday, April 4, 6 PM @ Main and Solomonson Wednesday, April 25, 6 PM @ Main Join us for Family Games Nights, Wednesday, April 4, 6 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Main and Solomonson Branches, and Wednesday, April 25, 6 PM at the Main Branch! Kids, teens, and families are invited to drop in any time during the program to play our variety of board and card games, or bring your own games! Lego Club Party Saturday, April 7, 10 AM @ Main Build yourself up at the Lego Club Party on Saturday, April 7, 10 AM at the Dickinson County Library—Main Branch! To celebrate the end of Lego Club until the fall, we will be watching the Lego Ninjago Movie! Enjoy some popcorn and have fun with your Lego Club friends. For Grades 3-8.

Novel Bunch Book Club Wednesday, April 11, 2 PM @ Solomonson A Novel Bunch Book Club will meet Wednesday, April 11, 2 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Solomonson Branch. The Novel Bunch book selection is chosen at the meeting each month for the upcoming month: attend the program to cast your vote! Reading guides for this book are available at the Solomonson Branch and on the Dickinson County Library website, www.dcl-lib.org/norwaybookclub. New members are always welcome!

The Friends of the Dickinson County Library will hold their Spring Book Sale, Thursday, April 12 – Friday, April 20 at the Dickinson County Library—Main Branch! A special preview sale will kick off the week on Thursday, April 12 from 5-7 PM, immediately followed by the Friends’ April meeting at 7 PM. This preview sale is for Friends of the Library members only: you can sign up to join the Friends at the door to enter the sale ahead of the public! Dues are $5.00 for one year of membership. The book sale will be open all day during library hours, April 13-19. The Friends will run a special bag sale on Friday, April 20 from 9 AM-12 PM, when the sale closes: fill a bag and make a donation to the Friends! Don’t miss out on great deals: we have materials for all age levels, including books, magazines, VHS tapes, DVDs, and much more!

One Big Day for Healthy Kids

Come participate in One Big Day for Healthy Kids with the Dickinson County Library on Saturday, April 14, 9 AM –12 PM at the Kingsford Middle School! The Dickinson County Library will have a booth set up, where kids of all ages can learn about our upcoming programs, including the library’s Summer Reading Program, and create a snowy owl craft! Money Smart Week

Celebrate Money Smart Week at the Dickinson County Library! Money Smart Week is a great time for evaluating personal financial goals and activities using resources your library provides. Adults and young adults are invited to visit our branches or our website, www.dcl-lib.org, for personal financial literacy resources made available by Money Smart Week partners. We also recommend the interactive games on the Money Smart Week Learn page that cover financial topics in a new, fun way and will build your knowledge of key concepts about earning, handling, and saving money! Preschool and elementary age children can get a jump start on being money smart with the following programs! These programs are brought to you by the Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates and Iron Mountain Kingsford Community Federal Credit Union.

We will feature stories and rhymes which introduce your children to the concepts of money and how to be smart about it! Children ages 0-5 and their parents are invited to participate in these storytimes on Friday, April 20, 10:30 AM at the Dickinson County Library—North Dickinson Branch, Tuesday, April 24, 10:30 AM at the Main Branch, and Wednesday, April 25, 10:30 AM at the Solomonson Branch. All children attending may choose a book to keep, while supplies last!

Lots and Lots of Coins

Saturday, April 28, 10 AM @ Main

Elementary age children are invited to Lots and Lots of Coins, Thursday, April 26, 3:30 PM at the Dickinson County Library—Solomonson Branch and Saturday, April 28, 10 AM at the Main Branch. We will read the book Lots and Lots of Coins by Margarette S. Reid. Attendees can play a State Quarter matching game and learn about coin collecting. After a fun discussion of the anatomy of a coin, kids can make a coin rubbing collage craft to take home! While supplies last, participating families will receive a copy of the book Lots and Lots of Coins by Margarette S. Reid, compliments of the Michigan Credit Union League! Part of the Money Smart Kids Read program.
